Under the motto "Science makes us smart" the Flemish Government draws up an annual Action Plan for Science Information and Innovation. This action plan forms part of the overall science and
technology innovation policy, and forms the tool with which the Flemish Government aims to popularise science, technology and technological innovation among various target groups.
The main objectives of the action plan are to reinforce the social basis for science and technological innovation, and to encourage young people to choose a scientific or technological education.

In 2004 a total budget of nine million euros was devoted to all the various projects. See

As part of this action plan, the Flemish Government already granted its support in 1999 to the Dirk Frimout Foundation, which is partly responsible for implementing the Earth Explorer project. |
