| The coast is by far the most important tourist destination in Flanders , accounting for nearly half the turnover from the region's tourist industry. In addition to the many overnights the coast attracts nearly 19 million day trippers spread over the year as a whole. Through the Coast Action Plan, the Flemish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Renaat Landuyt aims to revitalise the attraction of the coast, and above all to develop it into an all-year-round tourist product. Large investments have already been made in the past few years in the public facilities of the various seaside resorts. Together with the coast municipalities and private partners, 31 new projects have been developed to make the coast an ideal destination for day trips or holidays. One of the important all-weather projects for the future is Earth Explorer in Ostend . Thanks to this unique project, the coast once more has a tourist attraction that can capture the imagination of everyone and continue to draw visitors.
